Our community blood supply is a lifeline for you, your family, friends, and neighbors. New York Blood Center (NYBC), established in 1964, is one of the largest community-based, nonprofit blood collection and distribution organizations in the United States, collecting approximately 2,000 units of blood products each day and distributing to more than 20 million people in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. NYBC’s impact is local, national, and global. We provide over 1 million blood products a year to meet the daily transfusion needs of cancer and surgery patients, accident and burn victims, newborns and mothers delivering babies, AIDS and sickle cell anemia patients, organ transplant recipients, and many others.
New York Blood Center is also home to the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute and the National Cord Blood Program at the Howard P. Milstein National Cord Blood Center, the world’s largest public cord blood bank. We provide medical services and programs (clinical, transfusion, and hemophilia services) through our medical professionals and transfusion medicine physicians.
