Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center began operations on Jan. 1, 1975. Serving the largest medical campus in the world, The Blood Center has grown to more than 700 employees and serves more than 170 hospitals and health care institutions in the 26-county Texas Gulf Coast, Brazos Valley and East Texas regions. To meet the needs of the area community, The Blood Center must collect more than 1,000 donations every day. Blood Centers of the Pacific provides volunteer blood donations to more than 50 hospitals throughout Northern California. Community Blood Center opened in 1958 at its present address, 4040 Main St. A generation of Kansas Citians has grown up with Community Blood Center. They know if they, or someone they love needs blood in an emergency, Community Blood Center will make sure it’s there. That’s what Community Blood Center does. But that hasn’t always been the case.
